I know that--it was the point I was trying to make Cajun. He can find the time for a 5 minute conversation.

It is no ones side. It is the rules. I dont agree, but it is the rule and Baffert knows this. It isnt like he hasnt been there before.

And you as a CD cheerleader are proud of that? That a guy who has put hundreds of millions in the game, that the guard knew who he was, was forced to go back and get a piece of paper for "regulations" purpose? Geez, thats just horrible. I never heard anything so awful in my life. Thank God they won't get their hands on NY racing. Thats the last thing NY racing needs, moronic bureaucratic regs where trained people just don't have the guts or authority to make judgement calls. Ask a CEO of any successful company if he wants drones working for him or people who can think and make decisions and see what they tell you.

By the way Euro, you met Terry huh? Ask meyocks how he would have handled it. I know him, and hes a gentleman and one of the best liked people in the entire business by horseman and any fan with a grain of common sense. Terry never turned down anyone I know on tickets, passes, anything. Above and beyond the call of duty as far as horseamn and meeting their needs went. If I owned a racetrack, he'd be the first guy I would call to beg run it.

I dont know Terry. I got to meet him one time and boy I was impressed. What a great guy. I think he would be perfect for Ellis. I hope everything works out for him if he decides to buy Ellis.

Says who? You? Who are you to say what kind of time restrictions these guys are under. I posted a typical day for a trainer like Todd or baffert, and I'm sure I left out a WHOLE lot more. Kind of arrogant for you to say he has 5 more minutes in his day when he most likely does not.

The guy is aces. Never turned anyone down for anything that I know of. Hes also the kind of guy with guts who would always have your back and the back of people he knew. I don't know anyone alive who would say a bad word about the guy.

Again, I do not agree. But there are rules to follow. It is nice to see the guards follow the rules. Maybe all this great horsemen ship in New York is the reason why the NYRA is so successful.

It's not that easy, but hey... I see your point. I just don't think that worrying about credentials is in Baffert's job description.

yeah, they should take guys like Magnier and make em go back and get a piece of paper to see a horse they own run. That would really help them out a whole lot. lol

hoovesupsideyourhead 06-23-2006 01:38 PM

lets get it right..because baffert had three horses in the derby.he should be able to bend the rules..he was there all day..im sure that the miller thing was a last second deal by someone who owns a part of a horse or somthing..i cant blame the track or the security gaurd..now if this guy let blockhead in behind baffert the guy would get fired..lol

Yes they should if the people that are hired dont know who owns who. At least have someone from track management with security help the poor dude(s). They may not know the royality.

Well Cajun, it is Baffert's responsiblity. They are his guests so therefore it is his responsibility to make sure they are taken care of. It isnt Churchills. Churchill has their own guests to take care of in Millionaire's row.

Bob Baffert was not at fault. It is not like he is inconspicuous. He is the white-haired trainer of several Derby winners already. CD screwed the pooch on this one. The security for the paddock of the Derby should have walkie-talkies to the management staff. This shouldn't have been more than a "Baffert has an extra." Management says " let him the hell in then!"

Even at the level I am involved in this game and the horror thaat is Magna. We have brought up to 8 people to a free 4 person luch when you run in a listed stakes and they comp it all. For twice the allowed number of people. CD should have kissed Baffert's a$$ for even making him upset at the Derby. If I am Baffert, next time I have a super horse and the racing secretary from CD calls him up to see if I'll run in their race, I wouldn't even answer the phone.

Put a badge on a rent-a-cop's chest....BINGO!!! All of a sudden, he's really important!
Might not know sh it about racing, horses, or much else.
BUT AT LEAST HE KNOWS THE RULES!!!!!!

Gimme another break.......

Still not an excuse. Do you think Baffert has enough brains and compassion to think, " hey wait a minute, this poor dude does not know me from Adam and has been told not to let anybody in. He has been given rules and the guy is just following them..." ? or he just does not care?

Sometimes you got to have a little class and think about the position some people are put in while doing the jobs they have been told to do. Thats civility and courteous.

Courteous???
Doing the job they were told to do?
Baffert was much too kind, he only ripped the badge off the jerk.
I woulda been zippin' up my fly after I p i s s e d on him.
For $500...I'd still be smilin'!:)

Thoroughbred Fan 06-23-2006 01:55 PM

Pgardn,

You obviously have not been in charge of getting head counts for folks you know who are going to show up at a race. They sneak out of work and didn't let you know or they bring a co-worker(boss) to the race. The responsibility is on the track to kiss the owners and trainers a$$es. The owners and trainers are the customers of the track. Without the owners and trainers there would be no track. The customer is always right!

You, my friend need to get off your high horse and understand the facts. Having class is saying good luck to the other owners and trainers and then accepting the outcome of the race in a dignified manner--WIN or LOSE.

eurobounce 06-23-2006 01:55 PM

The guard was just doing his job. Telling Baffert yes it not worth losing his job over.
