Ok, sorry... Up the track in the Sam F Davis or maybe a race at FG.

Gaining Ground 01-19-2010 12:06 AM

if he takes another step forward he can be competitve in stakes. no reason to think he cant move forward again

He's by Distorted Humor out of the solid mare Golden Ballet, who won the Santa Anita Oaks as a 3YO over eventual Ky Oaks winner Flute. He's currently 200-1 at Wynn.

I really liked Drosselmeyer's win today.

That was quite something. Conversely, I hope that the Forward Gal is not indicative of what we can expect from the Sophomore Filly class.

Anybody know why Lookin at Lucky hasn't been on a regular workout routine?

From brisnet.com

Juvenile colt champion LOOKIN AT LUCKY (Smart Strike), last seen taking the CashCall Futurity (G1), stepped three furlongs in :36 3/5 over the Pro-Ride at Santa Anita on Tuesday. The March 13 San Felipe S. (G2) is being considered by trainer Bob Baffert.

I read somewhere he had gotten sick awhile back.

Kiaran McLaughlin has a 3 year old named Trappe Shot that is an absolute freak. He just broke his maiden, sprinting on Sunday. He should be able to run all day but there simply would not be time to put this horse on the Derby trail. If they play their cards right with this horse, he could be the best 3 year old in the country the 2nd half of the year.

Jon Sadler has a 3 year old filly named Sister Dawn who was a very impressive winner first time out going 5 1/2 furlongs. She is stretching out today to 1 1/16 miles. It's not that easy to come back and win stretching out like this, but I think this filly will be able to handle it. She looks like a route horse and she has had plenty of time to get ready for this race.

Sister Dawn ran 4th. She had no excuses either. They bet her way down too. They bet her down to 6-5 from her 5-2 morning-line.

He pressed a slow pace, pressing other horses that suck and grinded out a win, the favorite is clearly horrible, he was visually ok in his maiden win but slow and he was really bad today. My guess is Ice Box is not far away from being a claimer. When Steve first posted this race, I went into formulator and looked and I thought to myself it would end up being one the weakest "derby prep" allowances they run at the meet.

There is a horse running tomorrow at Churchill that I think is as good as any 3 year old I've seen this year. His name is Kajiwara. I don't think he will even be the favorite tomorrow. He will probably be the second choice. He shouldn't have any excuses. He should be able to win this race with no problem if he is as good as I think he is.

We'll see just how good the horse is when he's not allowed to set tepid fractions while clear on the front end. He ain't gonna come close to the lead tomorrow with Ninewayhit in the race. Safe Trip probably gets the trip in there, and we know he can sit just off it. I'll bet that Kajiwara goes favored and for me would be a play against at low odds.

Thanks for the heads up Rupert. I probably won't bet him but I am anxious to watch him.

He is m/l 5/2 favorite. Who do you think will be favored over him?

He's actually the 3rd choice in the consensus even though he is 5-2 on the morning-line. I think that Safe Trip will go off as the favorite.

I had literally been waiting for Kajiwara to run for a year. He was in my top 2-3 favorite horses at the OBS March Sale last year. I obviously wasn't the only one that liked him. He sold for $400,000.

When he was finally making his debut, he was only showing like 2 works. They must have just given him the race that day. He ran lousy but he came back and won easy the next time.

I agree with JerseyJ that Kajiwara will probably come from off the pace tomorrow but I don't think that will be a problem. I don't think he needs the lead to win.
