Aqueduct Race 1: #6 Separato 8/1 ML. - OTB
These starter allowances tend to be won by horses that are in a good form cycle. While Separato appears a hair slower than a couple of these, namely the 2 and 4, he stands a good chance at springing the mild upset here in the opener. He should find his best stride late. -- 20 lengths back of a mediocre pace early and never picked up his feet.
Tampa Bay Downs Race 9: #1 Meri Michele 10/1 ML. - SCRATCHED
Meri Michele is coming off a successful turf attempt going a flat mile and shortens up here to 5 panels. While the 8 and the 10 are serious threats to get away from them early, there should be enough other speed signed on to help her closing kick. -- SCRATCHED
Fair Grounds Race 7: #6 Hatpin 10/1 ML. - OTB
Hatpin looks to be the class of the field, might be a bit off her best form, but should benefit from the 3, 4, 5, 9, and 11 log jamming on the lead. She seems like the type to make her move right into the last turn and hopefully she can hold off the 2 and the 8 which will be flying late. -- Bet down to 7/2 like she was Live.. apparently she wasn't.. horrible looking run and ride.
Fair Grounds Race 8: #2 Dawn After Dawn 12/1 ML. - 2ND
The 1, 7, 11, and 12 should set a suicide pace in this race and set it up for a deep closer. Dawn After Dawn fits the bill here and may get up for a piece of it passing a bunch of winded animals. -- Went off 28/1. The pace never developed and the 2 was up much closer than I thought which took away from her closing kick. However she was game and holds on for 2nd and pays $19.40 on the place end. The exacta with the favorite pays nearly $140
Santa Anita Race 5: #12 Refusal 20/1 ML. - OTB
Refusal might sit a perfect trip in a race loaded with speed. Should he be able to tuck in behind the front pack before the first turn, he may be able to stalk and pounce and outrun his odds. Notice last start on the dirt was a victorious one at 9/1. -- Went off 30/1. Stayed involved until the top of the lane before flattening out in the stretch to finish 5th or 6th.
