Wednesday's Santa Anita Opening Day ended as one of the year's highlights with a lucrative late P4 score for more than $1,700 on a $1 play. Outstanding prices on very logical Kip Deville in the Sir Beaumont ($16.20) and Latent Heat ($13.40) in the Malibu drove the bonanza quad with post time favorites Pirate's Deputy ($6.00) and Silk Kerchief ($11.60) bookending the Baffert and Frankel stakes winners.

The surprising return, nearly twice the parley, more than made up for Friday's silly $9.00 loss in the Calder P4. It also represented the third time in five days we were able to steer through a four race gauntlet. If there was any question that the P4 is the best wager for modest investors at the track, Tuesday's return should be a reassurence. Hope some of you had it...

Wednesday brings the return of NY to the scene after a nine day break, and a good group of events in the P6 skien invited attention...

I watched a Maker trained horse (Montstar) last night roll away in a 3 yo allowance - but I didn't see that coming today from Baby Yaya.

Of course Steve i placed a bet today and was alive for a $5 double with the favorite in the 7th.Needless to say i wasn't comfortable with 4 turning for home.I think we found out today what he is.I do love the 3 in the last race today and will be betting the horse.
