Ben's Cat kicks off his 11 year old season in the 7th at Laurel this afternoon. Its an allowance, on the rail in this turf sprint with Trevor in the irons. No doubt he will be taking some sentimental $$s so I will most likely pass on him, hoping there is a square price on Elusive Joni . BC won off the lay-off last year in a similar set-up.

Good luck to the connections and safe trip for the horse and rider.

Ben's Cat retired from racing at age 11 (http://www.drf.com/news/bens-cat-retired-racing-age-11)

"There's a lady who comes to the Preakness every year, and she always tells me that when he is ready to retire that she'd love to have him," Leatherbury said. "I called her last night and said, 'This is the call you've been waiting for.' "

I just caught a posting on Facebook that Bens Cat was in emergency surgery for colic yesterday. The posting did not say what his condition was but that he was on the table for 4 hours. I don't know the poster but it seemed legit. Anyone hear anything about this?

Sadly, I believe Ben's Cat was euthanized today.

I know I viewed his last few times out as great wagering opportunities to play against him, there's no denying his overall body of work here in the Mid Atlantic was something else.

Condolences to his connections.

RIP

Tough cool horse. To all those that think racing a horse is cruel because they want to eat grass and do nothing all day go buy a dog, racehorses love to race at any level. If they are sound and still enjoying their job dont cry out its time to retire because they are 3 jumps slower.
