We took a pass on Wednesday's final week opener as the five turf races were certain to come off and spoil the day.. They did go "OTT", but two opportunities flittered by at the same time. Gregg Matties (8-1) and Mike Trombetta (9-2) put over the two best scoring shots on the card in the 3rd and 8th, and we're sorry to have missed them.

Five days left with four Grade I's lined up for the holiday weekend which is threatened by the remnants of the tropicasl storm working it's way up the coast. It will be very unfortunate if we're soggy here for Labor Day, as the Forego-Woodward, Spinaway and Hopeful are all important events that deserve fast mains... Keep your fingers crossed.

Thursday features the NY Turf Writers Cup (jumpers) as the 8th race, and the outstanding Hirapour is the obvious choice if you're playing multi-race tickets. The card is again a bit unispiring, but we're "running out of racetrack" as they say, so let's delve into it...
