Who says the quality of NY racing is deteriorating because of Monmouth? We have the best dirt and turf horses in training racing at belmont within 6 days of each other. Countless other grade 1 winners racing on Belmont day and the week after they are talking about Rachel going to the G1 Ogden Phipps. Behind the scenes may be in shambles the product is still the best in the country. GREAT UNDERCARD

Not this year. Churchill's Oaks and Derby undercards were better, and that's not a knock on Belmont, CD just did an unbelievable job this year.

Any of the NYRA bashers (The Fat Man) should officially now shut the hell up. Talk about a great betting card. Probably the best betting card of 2010 so far. NY will probably do about 50 times Monmouth's handle on Sat.

Boutique meet or not Monmouth can't hold a candle to Belmont in terms of the overall quality of horses competing. $7500 claimers running for $50K are still 7500 claimers in my book.

It is too bad that Comedero will pass on the Stephens in favor of a $400k sprint stakes at Charles Town.

It definitely is but since he's a gelding you can't blame them one but for going for the cash.
I'm looking forward to seeing him in the King's Bishop. He might be really good but it would be nice to see him against some sterner competition.

It is a great card. As it should be. We shouldn't be having discussions about bad fields for the traditional powerhouse circuit in the U.S.
I can even forgive the Woody Stephens field due to the 3 year old crop sucking so much a.ss this year.

The thing about the Woody Stephens is that it's not even a terrible betting race. There are huge knocks on the two favorites and the 3rd choice hasn't won a sprint race since August.

How high can he go in a five-horse field, especially where Remand looks outclassed? He has very good races over the track, and with the Pletcher/Castellano connection, I'm expecting that he'll be bet.

DM - 7/2
TUP - 12/1
Remand - 9/1
My guess.
Love the stakes P4. And the P3 on the 3rd thru the 5th.
The rest of the card? You can have it. Definitely not a better undercard than Derby Day at Churchill.

Undercard looks nice enough to me, too.
I just wish I had a clue (or consistent success) when it comes to betting New York races.
I'm confident in my California and Florida wagers, feeling I know those tracks.
When it comes to Arlington and New York tracks my few wagers fly with far less confidence. I gave up on Aqueduct years ago.

How does he disagree there? All he says is that they had to resort to some lower quality races to get 13 races?
I'm more interested in how he has horses double ranked, 'cx' , 'AB' , 'BC' ?
I'd love to know if that is him undecided on what level they belong or if he actually assigns both levels to the actual horse.

I think people will focus on his drubbing at the hands of D'Funnybone in the Futurity over the same track and distance last fall as the main reason to keep from making him one of the favorites.
If that doesn't work, his most recent sprint, the Spectacular Bid at GP, should do the trick.
To me, this horse is the classic speed horse that can't handle a sprint pace, which means the only way he can win is to hang on in a route race with a favorable pace scenario. Not sure what he's doing here, he should be in the prep races leading up to the Haskell.

He didn't exactly have smooth sailing in the Spectacular Bid.
He did until he couldn't find enough to get past Wildcat Frankie.
Maybe they'll try to drop back and make one run today. He certainly can't go with Eightyfiveinafifty and last if that maiden race at Saratoga last summer is any indication.

follow along my what I was trying to say, I should have used more words
Stonegossard says : Probably the best betting card of 2010 so far.
Crist says in retort : The sad reality is that it is now impossible to run a 13-race card in New York-- even once a year on its biggest day -- without resorting to multiple statebred and conditioned-claiming races -- something neither Churchill Downs nor Pimlico had to do to fill 25 races on Oaks and Derby Day and 26 races on Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Day.
I guess it could be argued what the term "best" means versus quality.

Yep. D'Funnybone only won by 4 lengths this time around.
The horse can't rate, which pretty much removes him from winning any top class sprint race.
I never said he wouldn't continue to be a bridesmaid, especially in a 5-horse field.
Maybe around Pennsylvania Derby time they'll come to their senses.

I saw the race on tape and I was thrilled with DM's performance, but also frustrated. This horse is not a speed demon, so either Javier felt like the colt would have resented being restrained today or he just gave a bad ride. He's a fast horse and should be tough in sprints from hereon out.

And steve continues to defend this industry like it was his own child. by the way, when the horses come out on the track they are not going to play "sidewalks of n.y." or "new york new york" like they have for the past 30 years. Gov. patterson requested a jayZ rap song and the nyra obliged so raise the roof and eat some chicken and watermelon.
Are you frickin' kidding me? This is so anemic. Is it Karaoke Night at Belmont Park ? It's not like they got Jay Z and Alicia Keys to do it, although that would still suck. If I were Belmont I'd have told him to go jump, or played it earlier in the day and done New York, New York before the race like usual.
I think it's hilarious ABC cut it off and went to a commercial break. Here's the real deal, for those disappointed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqlJl1LfDP4

They mentioned on the ABC broadcast they were using 25% more water on the track than normal- and while the last two races were far from exceptional they weren't THAT bad... And obviously Bribon running a 107 is far from a reach. Looked like a great day out there, I was sad to miss it.
