what were they going to do, Mast Track was off the rail gasping for air the final 1/16th, not like they could swing over and block what is a miracle run.

Sometimes its ok to admit a good ride when you see it.

It took a miracle run for the horse to win, meaning everything went the horses way, race collapses and he gets pretty much a perfect trip to beat a 35/1 shot. Now normally its an auto play against in the next race but this horse won't be facing much at a distance I think he is better at then most. He aint much horse thats for sure.

I agree but I think even a B-list Euro turf horse trying the Tapeta in the DWC will abuse Richard's Kid.
Worth noting that this horse was a complete pig before going to the white-haired magician...now he must be getting the good stuff.

In his last three starts for Dick Small he was beaten by a combined 23 1/2 lengths in handicap division staples like the New Orleans Handicap, the HE Johnson Memorial, and the William Donald Schaefer. He was a complete failure. All of a sudden he gets three months off and is a legitimate GI horse (albeit in a horrible division)?

Small's a 5% trainer who in 16 starts never ran the horse on turf or synth (although it looks like he tried once). . . The horse was certainly nothing special for Small, but he ran a few decent enough races topped by that 97 Beyer over Bullsbay in last year's J. Campbell. To believe that he moved up on a different surface (his dam was a turfer and her two sibs who made it to the races were turfers as well) - the proper surface - by what? an average of 12 Beyer points? isn't really anything to be amazed by. I'm not a Baffert fan, but I don't really see this as a blatant case of juicing by any stretch.

I had not heard the name, I was just getting into the game at that time and never knew the trainer.

Dick Small also trained Broad Brush. Off and on, he was private trainer for Robert Meyerhoff.

He was not a complete pig and Baffert is the GOAT.

I agree.
I remember we looked at him in that turf race first start for Baffert, after that he got really good, perfect prep.
