Excellent discussion with Gary West yesterday regarding the opening of this great racetrack. This has to be a 'must see' on your 'bucket list' of places to take in live racing. I was at the 1977 Arkansas Derby (Clever Tell) and still can remember the overflow crowd of 60,000 packing the place. I'm sure it has changed plenty since then but the quality and type of atmosphere has remained fantastic. Terry Wallace is fun to listen to and this used to be the place that was a precursor to the Ak-Sar-Ben meet in Omaha.
Ahhhh memories....................

Well said, Oaklawn is a tremendously fun track in a great little city where the racing atmosphere rivals Del Mar and Saratoga (with a little southern flair).
It is well worth visiting.

My favorite Terry Wallace calls are the races with Chindi, who was a rock star to the locals. What a wonderful track to visit.

Terry Wallace will go down in Ak-Sar-Ben history for his calls on Who Doctor Who, one of the best Nebraska bred horses..........

And a stay at the Arlington ( or at least drinks at the lobby bar) is a must.

I like Crossfirehurricane, but I'll be taking a look at Nakatani on Enticing Girl at what should be long odds.

I, too, have enjoyed many trips to Oaklawn Park. My wife and I liked Hot Springs so much we honeymooned there (after 1981 racing season). Very uncrowded once OP meet ends.
Always have fun time there. Planning trip for either March or April with friends from Little Rock and south Louisiana.

I feel like this horse has to somehow be a mortal Derby Trail lock.
Hopefully she behaves herself in the stretch.
lol.

I like the #5 Vertical Vision in this one. Lot's of 45 half's in her past and she looks to move forward today. Steve will keep a horse where it belongs. It appears she'll be a sprinter her whole life as to the fact they haven't moved her longer after the CD race.

just read in this mornings paper that semaphore man re-aggravated his injury, and won't run this year. he may end up retired.
we're staying at the brand new comfort suites, very nice. over 20k yesterday for opening day, but off track handle down due to the signal dispute.
wish me luck at the windows today!

How was the .50 cet Corn Beefy on Friday? Semaphare Man a gelding? Can't remember for the life of me. Man back in the day me and my friends would stay the whole opening weekend at the track. Bar hopping at night until the early hours and sleep in until 10-11 am:zz: get a Bloody Mary at the Arkansas Sports Bar. Man i miss them days.

we didn't get up here til yesterday evening. and yes, semaphore man is a gelding. i'll try one of those bloody marys! i'll probably end up eating too much off the buffet and ruin dinner....the .50 corned beef was moved to saturday for the larger crowd.

oops, forgot the bloody marys....just got home a little while ago. had a wonderful time. had some bad beats, but county clerk and sonar helped right the scales. shame it rained all day, turning the track from 'fast' to muddy...but we were snug as bugs at the carousel terrace. bread pudding was fantastic as always.
