Weather in Upstate New York is mercurial. There are nice days at Saratoga and then there are thoroughly perfect days... Wednesday was thoroughly perfect. Cloudless but not hot; Breezy but not cool. The racing was almost secondary to how glorious a day we had at the Race Course Wednesday, and everyone's mood reflected how wonderful an afternoon it was.

Handicapping and wagering-wise, it was one of those days where it almost seemed not worth having devoted the time that goes into it... Two bets of $20 each... $42 in returns... Woo Hoo... A few chalky exactas and few big scores to be had. No problem. Big scores are like waiting for city buses: there's always another one coming in a few minutes...

I went to the yearling sales last night which is always a pleasure. Long-time ESPN poster and Derby Trail member "Brockguy" arrived at the Spa yesterday, and he came over to the Pavillion with me before heading back to his Albany hotel. We spent time talking to Chuck Simon who was ogling a Smart Strike colt (hip #116), and asked if I had $200,000 to go in with him... (I had $300 with me so I was a tad short...) The affable Simon had a $400,000 budget in mind for the well made colt who ended up going for $500,000. Also spent a few minutes with frequent ATRAB guests Chris McCarron and Ed Musselman (Indian Charlie).

Thursday is jump day, and we'll pass on the hurdlers... Wednesday's modest results are below...
