Unbelievable. A 5 horse derby prep at a major track.

what's the word on the weather and the track conditions?

I think Reflect Times is the key/value to the race. 2-1 odds are a necessity, that looks like a given; 3-1 and up will be my bet.

Great card, hopefully they can run. Will spend a lot more time on this one than GP this weekend.

These look like good picks but where's the analysis? Why do you like a horse who just won a non winners of two and a horse who has never won a two turn race on sufraces other than grass to finish ahead of a Grade 1 winner?

Anyone know why Bejarano and Gomez are switching mounts in the LaHabra?

I wish I knew the answer. That switch is odd since Bejarano has been Frankels go to guy and the same with Pletcher and Gomez in So Cal.

i wondered about that too, but because they are jockeys, i just figured them on not remembering who they ride for.

Can they please never run Hystericalady on a synthetic surface again?

She can't even hold off the likes of Tough Tiz's Sis, Nashoba's Key, and Balance with easy trips on that surface.

On dirt, she always fires strong races.

they'll retire her, watch

They don't need to do that. Just stop running her on fake dirt.

For the Strub, I went in with the same attitude as the last one. I don't care who wins as long as it wasn't one of the Rat Brothers, Tiago and Great Hunter.

The Hughes/Mandella/Espinoza team seems to have a nice couple of 3yos this year.

Only speculation on my part but I would think it's probably along the same reasons he scratched Pussycat Doll and is sending Indian Blessing to Louisiana. To avoid racing his good horses over an unpredictable surface.

Pussycat Doll has been plagued with injuries for 3 years and allegedly has a foot problem which, coming from Baffert's mouth (see Kafwain, see Vindication, see Point Given, see Yearly Tour, see Chief Planner), usually means something much more severe. It's somewhat surprising that someone purchased her as a racing prospect and didn't send her straight to the shed given her horrendous 2007 campaign.

Air Commander reportedly left a little feed, and considering he's made about 6 lifetime starts and sports a 9 month layoff, it's not out of the realm of possibility to think that "leaving a little feed" is Baffertspeak for "going to the ranch soon".

Trainer Bob Baffert revealed his reasons for scratching PUSSYCAT DOLL (Real Quiet) from the Santa Monica H. (G1) and AIR COMMANDER (Point Given) from the Strub S. (G2), both on Saturday at Santa Anita. "Air Commander left a little feed, and Pussycat has been having some foot issues, and I didn't want to take a chance on running them," Baffert said.

Looks like you are right on.
