Anyone know when Penn Nat'l will re-open public access to the track? News reports say the casino is scheduled to open in February. I'd like to take a trip there (and maybe visit Real Quiet on the way at his new digs), but I'd like to be able to actually stand by the rail rather than be stuck in a building far away.

Dr. Fager would be our board expert on Penn National. Hopefully he will see this and be able to help you out.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I was just up Saturday and they're putting in the slots now. There really doesn't appear to be any plan towards getting the access to live racing opened up prior to the casino opening. The temporary structure isn't far away, but it sucks you can go out and see the temporary paddock but there is no view of the track you're forced to go back inside and watch on closed circuit tv.

Yes it is, about 7 miles. If you continue on Hershey Park Drive East and turn left onto 743, keep going straight it's right over I81 you can't miss it.

Since Delaware Park finished their live race meet and I refused to go to Philly Park for live racing because they treat there horse bettors as second class citizens compared to the slot players. I can't wait for Penn to finish their construction, it looks like a going to be a first class facilty when I went there about 10 days ago and hopefully they put lights up for their turf course.

Will Penn Ridge Farm take visitors, do you know? I've been thinking about visiting, too, since my parents live outside Middletown and I need something to do while my nieces have a Dora marathon on the tv. :) I tried googling the farm for a contact number or website, but there's not much information on the new digs yet.

Don't know. Intended to contact them closer to the time of my trip. If you find out, let me know.

Will do. I'll be there over the holidays so my visit would be around then. If visitors are welcome, I'll post or pm and let you know.

Going to check out Penn Nat'l's new digs this Friday. Called Penn Ridge Farm regarding visiting Real Quiet on the way. They sound amenable to visits, if anyone's interested, but not this week due to ongoing barn construction.

I believe they open today but racing is cancelled due to weather.

Visited this weekend, must say I was very disappointed. The facility is nice if you're going for slots or a beautiful sports bar. However, for horse players I can't say they seemed to consider them at all....especially simulcast players.

1.) all entry through the casino, Delaware park has this right if I don't want to walk through the casino it's sure nice not to have to.
2.) Sports bar....no racing feeds, never will be
3.) I don't even know how to describe the simulcast area, sort of like the airport looking at arrival/departure screens. The space is long and narrow. Also, these TV's are all track feeds, no sports available. I may be in the minority but especially in the fall I like the big game on in the corner while I play.

Live racing is much better, although they really decreased the outside area and moved it pretty far from the rail. The toteboard is nice.

Maybe it'll grow on me...we'll see

This is the future of racing, at least at the small venues.

On my recent trip there, I spent most of my time outside. It is a small area, but kind of cozy. And Blue Mountain, for someone who grew up in a mostly flat part of PA, is impressive looming over the track.
