"According to an industry source, three bonuses are in play as part of Hard Spun's breeding agreement: $10 million for winning the Classic; $5 million for being named top 3-year-old of the year; and another $5 million for being named overall horse of the year."

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer For those of us who wondered why Hard Spun was not pointed for the grass or the dirt mile this is probably the reason. Although I thought he really could not win the Classic, perhaps with the weather and post position he might.

He's in the Classic because he deserves to be there, end of story, regardless of what incentives the Sheikhs' loose change is being offered.
