I posted last night on another thread that I thought this guy was the real deal and that he would handle Day Pass easily.

I think anything is possible with this one right now. I hope we get a chance to see him in the US.

he handled the extra trip very well... i think he's owned by one of the Sheikhs so the US would be the logical step for him, being so good on dirt..

he could be facing the impressive Eu Tambem in UAE Derby.. could be a interesting race! from racingpost.

EU TAMBEM, impressive winner of the final round of the MaktoumChallenge at Nad Al Sheba, could take on Asiatic Boy in the UAE Derby.

Trainer Ismail Mohammed is eyeing the Dubai World Cup itself with his ex-Brazilian-trained colt, who won Argentina’s dirt Derby before moving to Dubai, where he won Thursday‘s Group 2 in fine style under Kerrin McEvoy, beating Singing Poet an easy five lengths.

“The horse has come out of his race really well,” said Mohammed, who has thrived at the Dubai Carnival with 13 winners.

“It was a very pleasing effort on his UAE bow and he will hopefully have come on for the outing. I was very hopeful beforehand and he certainly did not let me down.

“I said earlier in the week that he was my Dubai World Cup horse if I had one and that race is still under consideration.

“I will talk to the owner though, and the UAE Derby is a definite possible - he is only three of course.”

de Kock: "They won't all be campaigned hard, but it will be a good experience, especially with Asiatic Boy, who I think is a very good horse and could go to Royal Ascot, and Mullins Bay, who could be very competitive."

our boy could be heading over to Europe after all!! will know more after the weekend!

just an update on this potential star .. he's skipping Royal Ascot and will be pointed to the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood over 8f in August and then maybe the Juddmonte International Stakes over 10f later that month.>It certainly seems odd because the Sussex Stakes is hardly the most prestigious mile event on the calender... I really hope he can show his talent on turf because he looked very special on dirt.. It remains to be seen.. anyway heres from the racingpost:

ASIATIC BOY, the South African superstar who won four races on the bridle in Dubai this year, remains firmly on course for a clash with George Washington and Finsceal Beo in the Sussex Stakes.

The Mike de Kock-trained colt, whose NadAl Sheba haul included a near ten-length triumph in the UAE Derby, on Wednesday featured among a 51-strong entry for the BGC-sponsored Group 1 at Goodwood on August 1.

Based in Newmarket for his Sussex preparation, Asiatic Boy has not raced since completing the UAE triple crown by landing Dubai's premier Classic, soon after which it was confirmed that Goodwood, not Royal Ascot, would be his first British port of call.

"He's very well," said De Kock on Wednesday. "He has really freshened up nicely since Dubai, which is really important, as it can take a lot out of them out there, especially when they go through the triple crown, as he did.

"I'm very happy with the horse, and I'll be seeing him when I come over to England next week.

"At this stage he's on target for the Sussex Stakes and he will probably have a racecourse gallop at Goodwood a couple of weeks before the race. After that the plan is to go for the Juddmonte International." Last year's champion juvenile Teofilo, Derbyrunner-up Eagle Mountain and Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Astronomer Royal are also entered in the Sussex, although notable by his absence is Cockney Rebel, whose trainer Geoff Huffer has nominated the International as the mid-summer target.

De Kock's Oracle West, who chased home Vengeance Of Rain in the Dubai Sheema Classic, is also poised for a trip to Britain. De Kock said: "He'll definitely be coming over but needed a break after racing in Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore.

"I don't know if he'll be up to Group 1 standard in Britain, but we'll give him a couple of starts and find out."

De Kock added that Drayton remains on course for Royal Ascot, with the Golden Jubilee Stakes his intended target.

Hopes that the royal meeting could begraced by Lester Piggott improved immeasurably over the weekend when the legendary jockey, who suffered a health scare recently, returned home to Newmarket.

Yeah, as far as i'm aware he has been over here a while. This news has surprised me at bit as it seems like (from the way the article has been written) he has been pointed towards the Sussex for a while, but this is news to me........ i thought it was the Queen Anne all the way for starters and then maybe the Sussex?

Excerpt, Racing post.....

Asiatic Boy, who has not been seen in public since beating Jack Junior by nine and a half lengths in the UAE Derby in March, is being aimed at the Cantor Spreadfair Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on August 1.

Brown added: "As for Asiatic Boy, we wanted to put him on the course to bring him on a little bit.

"He's a month behind the filly and doesn't run for four weeks. We weren't too worried about what performance he put up this morning. We just wanted to show him the course and we are very happy."

Asiatic Boy's name figures among 52 entries published on Wednesday for York's Juddmonte International next month. Last year's winner Notnowcato also holds an entry in the 1m2f contest, while another winner from last year's meeting, Alexandrova, is among the 31 entries for the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

Soft ground will be a concern for him. Deep down i bet they are regretting not running him at Royal Ascot, and not taking him to America instead.

Asiatic Boy on course for Goodwood

The preparation of star three-year-old Asiatic Boy is progressing perfectly with the colt due to make his eagerly awaited English debut against Europe’s top milers in Goodwood’s Group 1 Sussex Stakes on August 1.

Asiatic Boy has had a break since creating history at the Dubai International racing Carnival, winning on four occasions, including the Dubai Triple Crown of the UAE 2000 Guineas, Al Bastakiya and UAE Derby.

His aggregate winning margin for the four races was 25.75 lengths.

Speaking on the UK’s At The Races de Kock said everything was progressing well and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s colt was on target for Goodwood.

“He needed a break. Obviously he had a hard campaign in Dubai, but he is going very nicely and he will be at Goodwood first before going on to the Juddmonte International at York which is his main mission.

“I think his best distance will be about a mile to nine furlongs but he might just be lacking a bit of match practice for the Sussex - it could count against him a little.

“He is quite a natural athlete and you’ve got to expect when he steps onto the track that he will put it in.

“What we have to see is whether he is as effective on turf as he is on dirt, that’s the big question mark I think,” de Kock told At The Races.

“He works at home like a pretty awesome horse. He’s done it in Dubai against his own age group and I feel that if he can do it against older horses, we can maybe start to get a little carried away.”

Asiatic Boy is rated the equal of the dual Guineas winner Cockney Rebel and is one of 24 horses still in the Sussex Stakes at the latest forfeit stage with one of his possible rivals being Godolphin’s recent Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes winner Ramonti.

 No dirt racing in America? Phooey!

I'm starting to wonder if Mike De Kock doesn't like racing in America. I know he sent Irridescence over there a few weeks back, but that was only because she was being sold out there and he thought he may as well give her one more run under his name.

He has been on the go since February/March this year, so it's been a long season for him, even though he hasn't had much racing. South Africa - Dubai - England is quite a bit for any horse, and sending him to America might have taken the edge off him.

They couldn't have got worse luck with the weather over here this summer, and i bet De Kock is very frustrated. I still think he would have won the Juddmonte with firm ground, but yet again the rain came in time for the overrated and lucky Authorized.

A press release.....

Asiatic Boy returns to Dubai after unplaced finish in Juddmonte Stakes
Authorised (Frankie Dettori) wins the Juddmonte from Dylan Thomas. (racingpost.co.uk)

ASIATIC Boy was beaten seven lengths into fifth spot behind star three-year-old Authorised in Tuesday's Group 1 Juddmonte International over 2000m at York, but Mike de Kock was upbeat after the race.

He commented: ``Asiatic Boy moved up smartly halfway down the straight, so well that he was spotted by the commentator as being full of running, but he was balked at a crucial stage and had to switch for a run. His big action was interrupted and we had no chance from there in this league.’’

He added: ``We could never have won the race, but Jamie Spencer felt that the interference probably cost Asiatic Boy third place. They were out of touch over the last 200m and he was eased down. I have to add too that the track was soft in places. He didn't enjoy that and struggled down the back straight. I also believe that on the heavy track he was stretched to the full.''

Asiatic Boy will be shipped back to De Kock’s Dubai base shortly and the trainer said: ``English racing is hard and we’ve been competing in the highest divisions. The tracks are all markedly different and you need specialist runners all over. My horses have not been disgraced here, they’ve earned their way and the exercise has been well worthwhile.’’

Asiatic Boy’s next appearance will be in the 2008 Dubai Racing Carnival, during which he will be prepared for the Dubai World Cup. De Kock, on his way home later this week, concluded: ``We will have a few more runners in the UK later this season. This has been a learning curve, but I am more than ever determined to make the grade here. We’ll be back!’’

an update on the champ.. from the racingpost

ASIATIC BOY, last seen when fifth to Authorized in the Juddmonte International at York, has left Britain for Dubai and will not run in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

The four-year-old's trainer Mike de Kock reported that the horse had travelled over well and was being freshened for another campaign at the Dubai International Racing Carnival, where he took a starring role earlier this year, winning four races culminating in a nine-and-a-half-length romp in the UAE Derby.

De Kock said Asiatic Boy will be aimed at the Maktoum Challenge series in 2008 before a tilt at the Dubai World Cup itself.

“He arrived in Dubai about a week ago,” said the trainer. “He's in good form and is being freshened up before building up for the Carnival with a prep run beforehand.”
After his spectacular progress in Dubai, Asiatic Boy fared less well this summer on turf in Britain, finishing fourth behind Ramonti in the Sussex Stakes before taking on Authorized at York.

“There is no doubt that he is an awesome horse on the dirt,” De Kock added. “Looking backat his runs in England, the form has worked out well. Ten furlongs at York would have been stretching him a bit and the ground didn't really suit him either.

“I will talk with the owners, but after the World Cup I think he will go to America. I would think about running him on the turf there too if the ground came up firm.”

Well, it may have come a year too late...

He just got very unlucky with the weather we had this Summer. Whereas Authorized got very lucky.

Mike De Kock has always been convinced he is a better horse on turf. Who would have thought all of our top class summer races would be run on ground describe as good to soft at best.

Very unlucky.

I had to bring this thread up again as I believe I read that Asiatic Boy just "didn't like the UK" this summer. It was in the racingpost a few days ago but I havent been able to find it yet. One massive question though - WHY WAS HE IN THE UK THIS SUMMER??? I thought it was pretty certain that he would go to the US and run.. This is just stupid, I just can't believe it.

He'll next be seen in Dubai over the Winter.

EDIT just found it:

THE famous dark blue colours of Coolmore Stud's Sue and John Magnier will be represented at the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival, through the leading South African-trained filly Front House.

The Magniers have been represented only once before in the United Arab Emirates, through Powerscourt, who wasfifth to Phoenix Reach in the 2005 Dubai Sheema Classic.

John Magnier owns Front House in partnership with Mary Slack, while the filly is trained by Mike De Kock, who most recently saddled the daughter of Sadler's Wells to victory in the Grade 2 Gold Circle Oaks at Clairwood in South Africa on July 26.

De Kock said: “She's one of nearly 40 horses we're taking to Dubai, and she's done really well for us. She's a most exciting broodmare prospect, and hopefully will come back to Slack's WilgerbosdriftStud after running overseas.”

Of two of his other stars, Summer Mile winner and Arlington Million runner-up Archipenko, and Dubai World Cup second Asiatic Boy, De Kock said: “We are thinking of either the Champion Stakes or Breeders' Cup for Archipenko and at this stage we're leaning towards the first option.

“Asiatic Boy's coming back to Dubai – he just hasn't settled in England.”
